| | xbox 360 controller hello everyone To keep a long story short. I bought a 360 usb gamepad and it won't work on 32bit vista laptop. It tries to download the drivers with no luck. I have tried to download manually from the microsoft website still won't work. When I connect the gamepad to the laptop it recognises a new device and does what it does with no luck, the gamepad guide button works as it should by bringing up help but when I try to check it out in control panel it is not there. What else can I try? Just a couple of more things, can anyone suggest a good alternative gamepad to the microsoft one. Just one more thing, having tried ringing microsoft and xbox support for help with this problem, in very broken english I was repeatedly told the gamepad would not work with windows although the microsoft website seems to say differently. In the end I got a little frustrated trying to explain this to my new friends from India or where ever they where and gave up. never mind good things come to those who wait and wait and wait............. frustratedly yours tbg |

| | RE: xbox 360 controller tbgjilb, From what I've heard the xbox gamepad should work in Vista, after installing the proper drivers. Perhaps you need this: A new USB fix that just came out: http://support.microsoft.com/default...en-us%3b936003 I don't know whether this fix is applicable to your situation, but you never know until you try it. -- freddy "tbgjlb" wrote: > hello everyone > > To keep a long story short. > > I bought a 360 usb gamepad and it won't work on 32bit vista laptop. > It tries to download the drivers with no luck. > I have tried to download manually from the microsoft website still won't work. > When I connect the gamepad to the laptop it recognises a new device and does > what it does with no luck, the gamepad guide button works as it should by > bringing up help but when I try to check it out in control panel it is not > there. > > What else can I try? > > Just a couple of more things, > can anyone suggest a good alternative gamepad to the microsoft one. > > Just one more thing, having tried ringing microsoft and xbox support for > help with this problem, in very broken english I was repeatedly told the > gamepad would not work with windows although the microsoft website seems to > say differently. | | RE: xbox 360 controller tbgjlb, Another thought: Perhaps you have a USB device driver recognition issue that can be resolved by deleting the INFCACHE.1 file. It can get corrupted with bad data and cause issues like you MAY have. The file is located at: C:\Windows\inf. There, scroll down to the INFCACHE.1 file and right click it and select delete. To do this, you will likely have to give yourself permission to delete it, because of Windows built-in security. Just right click the file, select Properties and then click on the security tab. Let us know whether this procedure does anything. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. It does no harm to delete that file, even when it has nothing to do with the problem. Post back on results. | | RE: xbox 360 controller thanks for the help freddy, sorry it took so long to reply, been a little bit busy. I have had some more problems and I am getting no help from the various suppliers of the laptop and controller each saying it has nothing to do with them and I am getting very very p...ed off, never mind I will get there some how. anyway just a quick (sort of) update, I have not got round to your suggestions yet but intend to a.s.a.p. my new problems are that I tried to use my old gamepad but it would not work and asked for drivers which when installed still would not work. I for some reason then tried my usb bluetooth dongle which used to work fine but pretty much did the same as the other devices and then tried a usb flash drive thingy which would not work either. I have no idea what is going on but things don't seem to like using the usb ports ( maybe some sort of conflict some where ) the only thing that does work is the usb mouse which is fine. I know this was not a short reply but will the previous replies help this situation and if not any suggestions as to what will.
