You imply the drive is recognized by Vista, but what does it do/not do? Can it read media? Can it write CD's but not DVD's? What happens if you put media in the drive, then try to access it in Windows Explorer? |

Try to find out what make and model of drive you have and go to the mfgs website and see if there is a FIRMWARE update... many CD/DVD drives (like Lite-On) are not totally compattible with Vista and will be "flaky" when it comes to reading and writing... Check on their website and see if thats so and if they have a FIRMWARE update for the drive, I had problems like this with a Lite-On dirve but they did not have Vista compatible firmware and I replaced the drive with a Samsung and all is well...
