Can't Install My Printer HELPPPPPP!

I have the new *groans* VISTA.. I have tried installing my Deskjet 3520 both
with and without the installation disk and I continue to get the same
message:

Unable to install printer. Operation could not be completed.
(error0x000003eb)

I have searched everywhere can not find out what is wrong or what that error
message means.!!. I checked and it says my driver IS installed so that can’t
be the problem ..or can it? ..So lost with this VISTA ..(Miss my Windows
XP)..Anyone know?…Thanks in advance J

Re: Can't Install My Printer HELPPPPPP!

Hi,

The error code means the driver on your install disk is being blocked as it
halts the spooler service. Have you read this from HP support on installing
this printer under Vista?

Re: Can't Install My Printer HELPPPPPP!

Mr. Rogers..Since I posted my last reply to your post..This is what I have
tried and what errors/messages I have gotten..:

When I try to install a driver I am told a driver is already installed!!
When I don’t use my printer installing disk I get this message:
Unable to install printer. Operation could not be completed. (error
0x000003eb)..

When I do try to use my disk I am told to pick

From A:\
Or

C:\Program Files\Realtek\Realtek 8139 and 8139C+ Ethernet Network Card
Driver for Windows Vista

When I click ok on either one.. I am told that the folder does NOT contain
the driver software.??? I am soooo duhhh, (and no insult meant to
others..but I'm not even a blonde! ) ...and still very much at a loss!..I
am ready to give up on having my printer working. Thanks again for trying to
help me.

RE: Can't Install My Printer HELPPPPPP!

It's not Vista's fault. It has to do with the fact that Co's like HP are
trying to make an extra Buck off this whole Vista thing by no supporting
their Hardware.
I have a Photosmart 8450 Printer and a Scanjet 4890 Scanner. I could only
get the Printer to run as a Generic Printer at first. When I went to HP's
website to customer support I really got mad. After going through all the
clicking and crap when I was finished, HP recomended buying a more up to Date
Printer, NO DRIVERS!
I sent a very nasty e-mail about this and never got a reply.
I had a very imprtant deadline for a customer and because of this I had to
go out and buy another Printer. I purchased an Epson and it worked flawless
from the get go. As for the Scanner, same problem and same answer on their
website, untill about 2 Weeks ago. HP has finally got some drivers up for
some Printers and Scanners. My Scanner now wroks well but the Drivers for my
Printer SUCK.
I almost purchased the new HP Photosmart B9180, what a waste of Money that
would have been because it doesn't even have Vista support out of the Box.
I have to thank HP for making me look around for alternate Printer chioces.
In the past I've grown to respect and love HP Printers and Scanners. Since
being forced to chose something else I was introduced to Epson's fine line of
Printers.
Thanks HP for getting me to look elswhere. Because of You I'm going to buy
the Epson Stylus Photo R2400 instead...

Sorry for the rant. Try going back to HP's site and see if they've updated
their driver page to support your Printer. They're updating it Daily but you
still might get the suggestion to purchase a different Printer. I don't think
I'll ever get over HP's attitude twards driver support. Telling me to trash a
$500 Printer and replace it with a $120 Printer, come on Guys...

Re: Can't Install My Printer HELPPPPPP!

Hi,

When you stick the disk in, you would need to point to it. A: is referring
to your floppy drive, and the other address is on your hard drive. Instead,
try this: Plug the printer in, if prompted for a driver, cancel it. Then
click start and type 'device manager' and then hit <enter>. Expand the
printers branch and see if it is listed there (and if not there, look for an
unknown device in the usb branch). Double click it, then go to the driver
tab and click 'update driver'. Choose the option to browse for one, then
click the option to 'let me pick from a list'. Locate the HP3500 (as
described in that article) and select it for installation.

Re: Can't Install My Printer HELPPPPPP!

This is where I praise Vista, XP as well. the O/S takes all aspects of
Harware installation int account. I get so tired of People downing the O/S
when in fact its the Hardware, Software manufacturer that's the cause of the
headaches.
Vista has been out long enough and I'm sure Microsoft gave vendors like HP
plenty of Heads up before Vista's relese to get their drivers up to Date.
The blame for this problem lays squarely on HP's Shoulders, not Vista.
Chattz, what you need to do Is like I did and bug the crap out of HP for
updated drivers. If they ignore you or suggest bying another Printer, like
they did with me, youse your power of a Consumer and buy a Printer that has
support behind its product.
When a Co turns its Back on new technology the way HP has, and then tries to
force me into buying new Hardware because they don't want to support their
older products, its Time to look elsewhere.

RE: Can't Install My Printer HELPPPPPP!

One more thing. When HP finally updated the drivers for my Printer, I had to
install them with their software. From what I remember, I had to disable the
auto configure in Vista Ultimate and let the HP software install the drivers
itself. When the auto install Window came up I had to click out of the
program, I can't remember what the option is called. Something like Don't
allow Vista to install the drivers for this hardware or something like that.
HP has instructions on how to do this.
Also, You need to install the software before connecting the Printer to the
Computer. If you do it'll cause you all kinds of Headaches. I boo booed and
did this with the HP Scanner and after figuring it out, I had to plug it into
a diferent USB Port because I told Vista to ignore the Scanner in that Port.
Once I did this, everything worked fine.

Re: Can't Install My Printer HELPPPPPP!

I completely agree with all this. After numerous problems with my HP
printer, first of all with XP then Vista the best way is to forget HP and
buy from another company who got their act together in time for the launch
of Vista. HP certainly had enough time to get drivers for Vista out. I for
one, who always keeps up to date with my pc equipment will never buy another
product from HP.
