how do I access the com port and talk to the device once connected?

Re: usb to 9 pin serial

Note what COM port the USB adapter has assigned itself and then talk to it
as you would a physical COM port.

Telnet doesn't work with serial ports. What, exactly, are you trying to
accomplish here? Please give as much detail as possible.

What device do you intend to connect to the serial port?
Have you done this before?
