Memory timing question

I'm running Patriot memory that has timings 4-4-4-12 which I set
manually in my BIOS. There is another setting there for Bank Cycle
(Trc) which is set to 21 and there is no info on the Patriot site as
to what that should be set to. Any memory experts out there??

thanks

Re: Memory timing question

Check with your motherboard/system maker.

Trc is one of the things CPU-Z will read off the memory's SPD. If you
download and run that application, you will then be able to set it
appropriately.

Re: Memory timing question

I built the system myself and I doubt that my MB maker (Gigabyte)
would know (or care) what the Bank Cycle setting for my memory is...

Re: Memory timing question

Just exactly why then is the memory setting part of your
BIOS which is built into the motherboard. Stop being
foolish and check with Gigabyte as to what the possible
and recommended settings are for different memory
types.

The SPD on the memory contains the recommended setting, not the currently
used setting. If you read what it says in the Trc section of the SPD, you
can then reboot and use the BIOS set-up programme to adjust the current
setting to that which you found in the SPD. [CPU-Z will also allow you to
read the current setting, but does not enable you to change any of them.
Another programme, MemSet, will enable you to read and set more of the
memory timings than I could ever find out what they were for (but curiously
not Trc) regardless of how many options your BIOS gives you].
