| Guest | unknown device Hi I just installed Vista last nite and all went very well with the exception of one"unknown device" Vista tries to search for a driver for this device and of course cannot find one.I have no idea what this device is...how do I determine this?? Installed fine on an Asrock 939Sata2(ULI chipset) mobo with 4x516 of DDR3200,6600GT video,2 ethernet cards,2 HD,DVD burner,........all drivers were automatically installed.I just needed to update the video and sound drivers. Made the mistake of loading Jave 5 and screwed up IE7......used the restore feature and all was back to normal. Where would I find Java 6....did a search nothing came up thanks for the help peter -- "Those are my principles. If you don't like them I have others." |

| Guest | Re: unknown device I selected the feature on the sun Java web site to allow the (Online Installation) of JRE 5 update 7 to my Vista system and have not encountered any problems. If you download the Offline package, there appears to be a problem trying to install that. It may be a security situation in Vista, or it may be an incompatibility of the installer with Vista. peter wrote: > Hi > I just installed Vista last nite and all went very well with the exception > of one"unknown device" > Vista tries to search for a driver for this device and of course cannot find > one.I have no idea what this device is...how do I determine this?? > > Installed fine on an Asrock 939Sata2(ULI chipset) mobo with 4x516 of > DDR3200,6600GT video,2 ethernet cards,2 HD,DVD burner,........all drivers > were automatically installed.I just needed to update the video and sound > drivers. > Made the mistake of loading Jave 5 and screwed up IE7......used the restore > feature and all was back to normal. > Where would I find Java 6....did a search nothing came up > > thanks for the help > peter > |

| Guest | Re: unknown device It may not be possible to determine the unknown device this early in development. You could submit a bug report through the Beta Client via the feedback link. I have an unknown device and I have just disabled it for now in Device Manager and as new drivers come out I'll see if that gets resolved. I think it's my integrated dialup modem on the motherboard anyway, (which is disabled in bios as it conflicted with my NIC in previous windows) as I have exhausted the issue of trying to get that hardware installed. There is also software out there that can identify some devices that Windows can't.
