Vista - How to I get Vista to recognise my new HDD? (Newbie Question)

Problem : Vista thinks my new HDD is the same device and size as the old one.
How do I get Vista to recognize that I have replaced it with a different
model?

Process followed:
1. Connected new 500GB SATA HDD (Samsung HD501LJ).
2. Coped C: to E: using Norton Ghost 12 and shutdown.
3. Swapped SATA cable from old C: (Maxtor 6V250F0) to the new Samsung.
4. Rebooted.

Vista has picked up the Samsung as it's new system disk and seems to work
fine.
However, it still seems to think the new disk is a 250Gb Maxtor.

What do I need to do to get it to fully grasp the new device and it's size?

When copying the old drive to the new, YOU failed to choose the option to
use the entire disk space. Therefore, the new drive was created exactly the
same size as the old.

Your error.

I forgot to add that you can use Disk Management to expand the drives
partition to use all the space on the drive - but only if the free space is
to the right of the existing partition.

That's true I think, but the reason I didn't do this is the "Re-size drive
to fill unallocated space" option was greyed out - I couldn't select it.

Still, why does Device Manager think that the new hdd is a Maxtor?

Is there any other way of forcing the system to realize the size & make of
the new disk?

If the old partition name (designator) happened to be Maxtor - that would
explain it.
