Dual core processor only ones on one core

I have an AMD X2 3800 dual core processor on an Asus M2VMX motherboard. The
cores show up fine in device manager, but when I check using any number of
diags only one processor shows up. I've updated all of my drivers and bios
without any luck. I'm running Vista Home Premium.

Re: Dual core processor only ones on one core

my guess is go to computer properties then advanced properties then
enviroment variables the look in system variables number of processor change
to two, but before doing this i'd like a sec opinion

Re: Dual core processor only ones on one core

I checked, the number of processors was set to one, I changed it but after
rebooting it had reset back to one.

Did you upgrade from a single core processor after Vista was installed?
If so you'll have to reinstall it. Vista (and XP) configure themselves
during installation and not again even if the hardware changes.
If Device Manager shows ACPI multiprocessor for your CPU, then
it's correctly identified and the diags are counting the number of physical
processors (one) rather than the number of cores.

Re: Dual core processor only ones on one core

If you select an application process in task manager are you given the
option in properties for it to us one either CPU1 or CPU2? If yes then
both cores are working correctly.

Re: Dual core processor only ones on one core

First, yes I did a fresh install. I went to task manager brought up
properties on an application and there were no options for cpu choices. In
the device manager in the Computer item it shows ACPI PC. Under processors it
shows both cores.

In Task Manager > Performance tab > Menu > View > CPU History, is One Graph Per
CPU checked? Do you see two windows under CPU Usage History?

Re: Dual core processor only ones on one core

I have the same problem... Everything was fine before I messed up with the
ACPI... I tried to update the driver... It was called ACPI x86 based computer
now it's ACPI computer and I can't revert it back to the first one...
