Vista - Problems Upgrading from Home Premium to Ultimate

I went through the upgrade - no apparent problems - but the reboot will
freeze at the Windows Vista Ultimate splash screen with the only options on
the bottom right being to shut down, restart, sleep or hibernate. It doesn't
appear to even get to the desktop. So all I can do is keep restarting and
arriving at the same screen, although it will install updates while shutting
down. There is also a narrator button on bottom left.
