Is there an way, via registry entry for example, to hide an application from
the Programs and Features applet so that it can't be easily selected for
uninstall?
I don't want to have to install a utility application to do this if there is
a way to hide the icon or change the registry. Thanks.

Simply backup and remove the corresponding entry (subkey) under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
