Vista - Activation locked me out!

Activation locked me out!

I have Vista Enterprise that needs to be activated by the KMS server. Our
campus information technology didn't give the steps to do that and now the
evaluation period is over. Vista will only let me have internet access to
buy a new key (of course) and I cannot get to the command prompt to activate
via our KMS server. I cannot get the command prompt through the safe mode
start up.

Any one know how to get the command prompt when Vista is in lock-down mode?

Our campus help desk was no help. Microsoft support was no help (unless I
pay a substantial fee -- of course).

Re: Activation locked me out!

Your 'name' suggests that you are blaming Windows for what is, essentially a
deficit of knowledge on the part of campus IT. Nobody will no better than
them how to do it. Try getting by the receptionist to talk to an IT admin on
campus..

Re: Activation locked me out!

Mike,

I blame both, but especially Microsoft for not providing the most simple
solution to the problem -- access to the command prompt.

I did suggest to the tech desk that since the contract is with the campus
and Microsoft that they call for the solution...

And in the mean time, do you know a way to call up the command prompt or is
that function gone in the limited mode?

Re: Activation locked me out!

You Blame Microsoft and Your IT department?

Mike, Who do you Blame for Waiting 30 days on the warning for Activation?
My Guess is George W. Bush?

Microsoft has a solution, Your IT Department has to implement it.
It wouldn't matter if you called Microsoft for support, because this nothing
they can do anyway.

Here are some Basic Details for your IT Department
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/w.../bb335288.aspx

And weren't you Warned before you got this locked out mode?
There should have been 30 days of continued Warning for you to Activate?
Did you get the warning or just ignore it?

I don't think you can get into DOS mode after it's locked.
Is the search line there and can you put CMD in it?

More Details on Restricted Mode
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925582

Honestly,
You really need to bring this up to your IT department, because there is
nothing Microsoft can do for this.
It's all documented.

RE: Activation locked me out!

You sound as if you "bowwored" the disk, and want it for free.

If it was legit, your IT Dept would have it up and running.

Don't try and con us!!!!!!!

Re: Activation locked me out!

Sorry Mike, (Future Boy name Confused me.)
It just seems to be a theme, Blame the President,
For what ever goes wrong in my life, even if it is my fault.

Mick (if I get that correct)
Has a Good point for the OP
Most colleges are pretty good about Distribution in things like this,
That the Copy if legal can be resolved in way less than 30 days.
