Applications will not start, even though the process does.

After having some problems with the installation/update of Adobe reader 8 in
Vista Home Premium, I have not been able to run any application, whether from
the desktop or from the start meny. Windows base applications will still
start and work normally, but when I try to start IE, Mail or any other
application, it acts as if it starts, but nothing will show up as a running
app. and when I look in the processes, I see it there.

If you have Restore Points enabled, you should restore back to a point that
this Adobe 8 was not introduced to the system. That would be your temporary
fix to get out of it.
