installation error on expanding files

I checked my system with get ready, it said my system was ready for Vista..I
ordered the DVDs...I got error on "expanding files (6%)" error was "an error
occured while preparing windows to boot into the next stage of set up" This
occured on upgrade attempt. So I tried to do a boot from the DVD to do a
clean install and got the same message, i figgured it was corrupt data on the
DVD so MS sent me new DVDs...However with the new DVD the eror NOW occurs at
"expanding files (12%)"

my system dell Deminsion 2400 2.8 Ghz Celeron, 1 Gb ram, NiVidia 256 MB Pci
video. external DSL modem.

I did have install check for the updates none were needed...what could be
wrong and how do I go about fixing this?

Re: installation error on expanding files

Just a shot in the dark, but do you have an adequate amount of available
disk space? I believe that Vista Setup needs about 11-12 GB of free space.

Re: installation error on expanding files

I suggest you check your memory and disk for faults.

If you replaced a supplied CD drive with a DVD drive, did you also change
the IDE cable to an 80 wire cable?

Re: installation error on expanding files

you misunderstood I did not replace a Cd drive my system has a DVD
already...MICROSOFT replaced the Vista DVD's but I got the same problem. I
checked the drive and memory , heck I run Norton diagnostics and fix disk on
a regular basis
