Installing Vista Home Premium - Windows Updates

This question is in reference to a clean install of Vista Home Premium.

How do you disable Windows Updates from starting up before I install my
drivers and utilities cd for the motherboard?

Thanks

Re: Installing Vista Home Premium - Windows Updates

Your driver CD for your Motherboard is useless as it will only contain XP drivers. You have to go to your Motherboard site and download all the drivers from there.
Then Install Vista, after the installation is finished you can then install your drivers.
Same with the Video card.

RE: Installing Vista Home Premium - Windows Updates

Select> Windows Update,
Select> Change Setting.
Select> Never Check for updates.
After you have carried out the tasks you want to do, in windows update
select> Download updates but let me decide when to install and then choose
the updates you wish to install.
Drivers for graphic, sound, etc. it if preferable to download these from the
manufacturers website

Disconnect your interface to the internet. (LAN card, phone line, modem, wireless, etc).

Pull the plug so to speak.

I would never consider unplugging the modem, or even bothering stopping win update. Just let all the updates rattle in and then do your motherboard updates Plus on some Motherboards you wont get any updates until you done your motherboard as vista still can't communicate with your LAN so to be save download all your motherboard drivers first and save them lol.

I would never consider having a computer attached to the internet during
the build and the OS install. Why loose control IMMEDIATELY ??

Look I installes something like around 600 Vista OSs and never had a probplem with any instalation. Let Vista do it's thing and only then you install the rest. It eliminates a lot of future problems people get were win wants to install updates and can't etc. I make a living fixing comps and have been with vista since RC1. Try it
