| Vista Ultimate x64 | Vista 64 Windows Updates? I am wondering if we could get a thread going on what Vista hot fix updates are the best to install, I apologize if this has already been started in this forum. I have just done a reinstall of Vista Ultimate 64 and I’m a little confused at the inconsistencies between the reformat I just conducted and my last install. With this build just like the last, I installed only the hot fixes that Nvidia recommends and the updates that Microsoft/ACES recommends in their FSX readme file. My install order is as follows. After installing the OS with only 2GB of RAM, I installed the KB929777 64 Bit memory update. Then I shut the machine off and installed the remanding 2 GB of RAM and rebooted back into Windows. All four GB are now acknowledged in Windows. Next I installed the chipset drivers and the latest DirectX (Nov 2007) revision. Then I grabbed all of the Windows updates that show up when first connecting to Microsoft’s site. Next I installed the KB941649 update. Then the Nvidia recommended KB93710 update followed by the updates in the FSX readme file (in the install order they recommend) which are the following –
This time around I started to have what seemed to be USB issues after I installed an 8 GB Corsair GT memory stick and enabled Ready Boost. I had problems with BIOS detecting the RAID array and then after plugging in my Microsoft wireless gamming controller I had a blue screen crash. I unplugged the memory stick and was able to boot back into Windows. After this problem I gave the USB update (KB941600) a try and reinstalled the memory stick and enabled Ready Boost. I have not had any other problems yet. Now for my questions. What Windows Vista updates are people here on these forums using with success. When I was having the USB problems I came across another USB update that targets the Nvidia nForce USB controller http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925528 Should I have installed this instead of the general USB update? Also with every new Vista install I occasionally experience times where I can’t open the control panel. After clicking the icon there is a long duration of disk activity and then nothing. Doing a restart usually fixes the problem but it’s annoying to say the least. Are their any updates that target this issue? | vista64 | Re: Vista 64 Windows Updates? I guess I'm one of the lucky few; Vista worked out-of-the-box for me. I threw my parts together, installed Vista64 (with 4gig of RAM installed, no less). It had drivers for everything -- even though my mobo was 6mo younger than Vista RTM. I've yet to have any problems with any of the Vista updates -- everything just works. |
