| Vista Ultimate x32 | Clean x64 installation freezes at first reboot. I tried installing Vista x64 several times with 3 different imiges. The install dvd guides me through the installation process and completes the: Copying Files, Expanding Files, Installing Features, Updating, Completing Install. After the Completing Install finishes the restart prompt pops up and the rig reboots. At this point it begins to boot then hangs at black screen with flashing cursor (before windows load bar at bottom). The installation is being done on a bare bones rig (only whats necessary). Also Vista x86 installs and works perfect on same rig. Any ideas would be welcome. Thanks in advance... Mobo: Intel DG33BU (Latest Bios) CPU: Intel E6550 stock speed Ram: 4 Gigs Adata (Tried using 2 Gigs) HDD: Seagate Barracuda (SATA/300) <---- I think this is where the problem is...? The 64 bit must be done as a clean install. Since you have 4 GB of RAM, try removing 1 GB of it. Sometimes there will be a issue of installing with more than 3 GB of RAM installed. You can add it back after you finished installing the 64 bit Vista. It would not hurt to make sure you have the latest BIOS flashed for you motherboard before installing the 64 bit Vista. Hope this helps you, Shawn |

| | Re: Clean x64 installation freezes at first reboot. You might try removing 2G of memory installing and then putting the 2 back in. Check for threads about installations failing with 4GB. Kamo, Since you have the latest BIOS and your motherboard and CPU supports 64 bit Vista, I'm not sure. Download Search Results Take a look at this link on installing your hard drive with BIOS setup instructions. Perhaps, something is not set correctly. Seagate Technology - Barracuda 7200.9 SATA 300-GB Hard Drive Sometimes it may wait a bit (a few minutes) on that blank screen. Hope this helps, Shawn |
