| | Re: User Account Controls (Vista Home Premium) This UAC has got to have one of the most idiotic implementations I have ever seen on any system. UAC as a basic idea is a good one, however, once a user has decided that a program is acceptable to run, and has re-set (if necessary) the permissions for a software package, UAC must allow the user to check something that tells UAC that this program is allowed to run from that point forward without further user intervention. I have a software package specifically designed for the cottage vineyard industry. This package will not currently run on Vista with UAC active. It took me a while to discover why my software wouldn't run...UAC was my last guess, and happened to finally be the right guess. The worst thing was, UAC didn't pop up a warning, my software generated an AV. Trying to find an AV on a test system is not an easy task when you are not a low-level/Assember programmer. I am begging MS to put into the UAC the option to ignore programs marked safe by the user/administrator of a system. Unless such an option is put into place soon, I will have no option but to strongly recommend to my clients that they purchase only Windows XP machines. ---------------- This post is a suggestion for Microsoft, and Microsoft responds to the suggestions with the most votes. Windows Vista Community: Discussion Groups Did you try to run the program in XP2 Compatibility Mode, or check "Run this program as an administrator"? Sometime this will allow a program to run properly when there is a problem. See this tutorial for how if needed. Compatibility Mode Shawn |
