| | Windows Search Service fails Windows search service is generating many errors (mostly fails to start), according to Event Viewer, along with some from Windows Mail that I think are search-related. Is there any way to restart the search service? My registry settings for the search directories\folders are correct, and I have replaced the two .txt files in Search\Data, without effect. David |

| | Re: Windows Search Service fails Event Viewer reports, for the last hour, 24 errors, 18 warnings, 253 infos, 64 audit successes, and 5 audit failures 7 errors are Windows Search Service failed to create new catalog: Internal error (1,0x80070003). 3 are Windows Search Service has terminated unexpectedly. 1 is Windows Search Service terminated with service-specific code 2147749155 (0x80040D23). 2 are "LSM" errors: Terminal Service start failed: No such interface supported. 1 is SessionLauncher Service failed to start: The system cannot find the path specified. 24 are Network List Service service terminated: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service. 2 are DCOM errors: The server (long 5-group address) did not register with DCOM within the required timeout. No, the totals don't add up. The number of errors within the last hour has increased to 53 as I've been writing. According the Administrative Events log, I've also had a WinMail failure; failed search attempts to remove the old catalog; failed attempt by Windows Security Center Service to establish event queries with WMI to monitor 3d party antivirus, antispyware and firewall; and a I also have a very curious warning: Windows detected registry still in use by some other application or service . . . . detail: 1 user handle leaked from Registry . . . Device\HardDiskVolume2\. . .svchost.exe has opened key . . . . I can't block and copy from the Administrative log, so I insert an image: Sorry, can't send it: message too large, WinMail reports. Absurd. There is plenty more information available. If you would like more, please tell me what. Can you make any sense of this? Thanks again for your help. David "Mr. Arnold" <MR. | | Re: Windows Search Service fails I loaded it from my Dell OS disk, then updated everything. Unless you have a better suggestion, I am about to start deconstructing my system, eliminating items until I get back to a working system or I get back to the point I am backed up. "Mr. Arnold" <MR. | | Re: Windows Search Service fails It seems you have a lot of problems, which could be due to a bad install of the O/S. I would flatten the HD and reinstall the O/S from scratch.
