Installing new Vista Home Premium OEM

Hi,
I have a DELL machine with XP SP2 pre-installed in it. I just bought Vista
Home Premium full version OEM from a online shop. After reading few posts
over here, I would like to know few things before I start install the new OS,

a) as this Vista OEM DVD didn't come with my DELL machine, should I have any
problem installing or activation of the product key?
b) Usually what happens, with such OEM full version vistas' if you format
your HDD later and try to reinstall, need to phone MS again for activation?
c) Does HDD partition sizes have anything to do with the performance of
Vista? i.e. My C drive has 40 gb (XP installed) and D drive has 60 gb (where
I intend to install vista).
Please help me out regarding these questions. Thanks a lot.

Re: Installing new Vista Home Premium OEM

The first install should go relatively easy.
Anything after that your going to be lost for awhile.
Then once you figure some of it out, you'll find out how much doesn't work
with it.
Then you'll have activation issues because a butterfly flapped its wings in
Chernobyl.
Stick with XP.

RE: Installing new Vista Home Premium OEM

I definitely would not go lower than 60Gs with vista!
Activation and reactivation(if you change hardware, or reinstall OS) is part
of the game with vista.
If it ever tells you that your Key is in use(it is, by you!), take the
phone option, and speak to a real person.
You are in the process of dual-booting?
If you know what you are doing, fine; if not, ask here.

Merry Xmas.

Re: Installing new Vista Home Premium OEM

List your system specs. How old is your system. Or tell us the model number of your Dell and we will try to advise. By the sound of your harddrive size you may need to upgrade parts of your computer. One option you may have is to get a harddrive and install vista on it to see how it goes. If you have alot of problems then you can always revert back.
If you need to reformat and reinstall you may need to phone microsoft but this is easy to achive and when you need to do it there is a tutorial on this web site on how it is done.

Not true. You did it. Your choice. Apart from the less than helpful info you have so far divulged, there is probably quite a bit more that you are not telling us

Re: Installing new Vista Home Premium OEM

In terms of failures of the software interface, yeah sure I find it easier to post what does work.
Maybe this system will iron itself out.
But the overhead for it is way too huge.
