| | Reinstall Vista Ultimate - Mainboard Upgrade? Season Greetings, I'm about to upgrade my mainboard (ASUS Formula MAXIMUS), so I will be completely reinstalling Vista Ultimate on a freshly formated raid array. Can I copy any Vista registration information from the current system, or should I just re-register Vista once reinstalled? Any other recommendations and/or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you, Steven |

| | Re: Reinstall Vista Ultimate - Mainboard Upgrade? By re-register I assume you actually mean 'activate'? If you are replacing the motherboard then you will need to re-activate. It is no good attempting to re-active via the internet because the activation will more than likely fail. To re-activate you will need to select the telephone (toll free) number. This is an automated line so if activation is refused again 'don't' put the phone down. Stay on the line and you will be able to speak to a real person. Explain what you have done and they will be able to help you activate. Even if activation information were available for you to copy to your new setup, it wouldn't work because the drive number wouldn't match the one in the activation file. -- -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows - Shell/User Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". | | Re: Reinstall Vista Ultimate - Mainboard Upgrade? It's easy to just re-activate. You may need to phone Microsoft, though. It is easy and just takes a few minutes. They shouldn't give you any trouble, either. And if you copied the registration information, once the new hardware was detected, you'd have to reactivate anyway. -- Dustin Harper dharper@xxxxxx http://www.vistarip.com Steven Hilgendorf wrote: Quote: > Season Greetings, > > I'm about to upgrade my mainboard (ASUS Formula MAXIMUS), so I will be > completely reinstalling Vista Ultimate on a freshly formated raid array. > > Can I copy any Vista registration information from the current system, > or should I just re-register Vista once reinstalled? > > Any other recommendations and/or suggestions would be appreciated. > > Thank you, > > Steven |

| | Re: Reinstall Vista Ultimate - Mainboard Upgrade? Thank you John and Dustin for the information. Just a follow-up. I upgraded my mainboard and reinstalled Vista Ultimate clean. I 'activated' Vista by phone, as recommended, and everything seems perfect. Happy Holidays, Steven Dustin Harper wrote: Quote: > It's easy to just re-activate.
