| | Installing Win XP Prof (SP2) on a separate partition? Hi, I have just installed the Vista Beta 2 and would like to install XP on another partition! A new partition is created as specified in help manual, but it seams like Vista is newer and don't allow XP to be installed on an other partition? Do I have to create a boot CD to get arround this? | | Re: Installing Win XP Prof (SP2) on a separate partition? Vista does not use boot.ini. It uses the boot configuration data store. That's what you overwrote. You would have to create it from scratch, which is doable, but the learning curve is far longer than just reinstalling. Can you see the contents of the Vista partition from XP? If so, copy your files out of it before reinstalling. "Kjell R. Christensen" <krcc@online.no> wrote in message news:u5r7hoRrGHA.3256@TK2MSFTNGP04.phx.gbl... > XP (installed on D is fine, but I'm not able to make a repair on my C:> where Vista is installed. | | Re: Installing Win XP Prof (SP2) on a separate partition? Files yes. Programs will have to be reinstalled. If you carefully note where the files were stored, you can copy them back into thier original locations by drag and drop. The Easy Transfer wizard in Vista would do the job but it is beta and is not yet fully reliable, so I would do it the old fashioned way. "Kjell R.
