Vista - Vista has trouble booting up after upgrading from XP

I have an Enpower tower that originally had XP on it then I got the Vista
upgrade disc and have been having trouble booting up . Help please, would
could the problem be , I had took my tower to a local repair shop and they
thought I needed a whole new mother board. I don't think so though because my
tower worked fine before upgrading to Vista .
