Driver Problems

Hi To all, I've installed vista Beta 2 and it went ok, I've put it on to my
second hard drive partition, it dual boots, I have put my printer on R220
Epson and it works but the status monitor would not load, also i tried to
install my Canon scanner 3200f, it would not load software side allthough the
driver seems to have loaded becouse the scanner shows in the control panel
and self tests but when I try to scann an item it comes up no software.Has
anybody had this problem and do they know a work arround ?
I also run the Office Beta 2007 on the XP drive C no bother, but it will not
load onto Vista, it comes up with a message before it gets about 1 minite
into the load saying it will not load and Vista has stopped it.

any suggestions as to getting the printer and scanner problem sorted would
be appreciated.

Jonboy

Re: Driver Problems

Did you check the Epson and Canon websites for Vista beta drivers or any
notes on a more generic driver to use?

> Hi Thanks for replying, Yes I got all the latest drivers before install of the vista Op system, When i installed the Printer driver it seemed not to install but it must have becouse it actually works, the Satus monitor I'm not too bothered about, its the Scanner and the Office with Outlook, I really want to use the vista instead of booting into XP everytime I want to scan somthing in. I've loaded some software and it seems to be OK i.e. Family tree stuff etc.

I'll have another look and see, just thought somebody may have allready come
accross the problem.

Re: Driver Problems--Try Disc look for TWAIN DS driver

Johnboy--

Short answer --search the disc that came with your scanner by popping it in and right clicking start explorer all users or anyway you want from Windows explorer (win key +E, etc.) and see if you have a ***TWAIN DS driver on the CD that came with your Epson scanner.

I have had this prob and this is common and particularly with many of the scanners. The Vista Print team has indictated for months in chats that UAC or security is progressively breaking some printer and scanner drivers (yep part of this is the company's like HP and Epson dragging their butts in adapting drivers and this is happening with more frequency as builds progress.

Vista will not be assessing driver health accurately with device manager or the CP. What I mean by that is that the driver team has told me that in both XP and Vista you cannot use the presence of the device in Device Manager or anywhere else as a guarantee that the driver actually works. For driver health to be assessed correctly from Device Manager, you're going to have to wait for Blackcomb/Vienna. A lot of people think that just because a driver entry shows in Device Manager that guarantees the driver is intact. That just ain't so. It may be but it is not necessarily so. If you're having a problem with said device, consider reinstalling a driver even if its entry is in Device Manager. I had that happen with a sound card the other day in Vista.

One solution is to try to go out and search for a "Twain DS" version of your scanner driver. One "trick" you can try with any driver and Vista that is sometimes effective is that wherever you install from (Device Manager right click/Add Hardware, ect whichever wizard since they are all very similar make sure that you download the driver files preferably from Epson in your case--the scanner maker--and then when you go through the wizard select "browse" or "I want to install from location" (words to that effect) and then it will allow you to select or type in the file path of wherever that driver file is. You only have to have the path of the whole file. You don't have to drill down into the contents of the driver file. That often will get in a driver when the routine running of the wizard comes up with a "cannot locate driver."

Good luck,

CH
