New Installation with 2 SATA drives and SATA DVD

I am about to set up a new PC with 2 320G Sata drives and a Sata DVD drive. I will be using a Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 motherboard.
Am I going to have a problem with the Sata DVD?

Go to the website of the MOBO and download the SATA drivers. Have them
available if you find that the installation can't see your SATA drives.

If the Sata DVD drive is recognised, no, you shouldn't have a problem.
You'll know right away when the system boots from the DVD or doesn't.

    Thanks for the reply.

I have the drivers from the motherboard so that will not be an issue. I am looking to head off any problem before I try to load Vista. I don't want to adapt a try and see what happens approach.

    Thanks again, Bob

No one can guarantee no problems. I have SATA DVD drives from Plextor and
NEC and Lite-on. The Lite-on works perfectly, the NEC does some functions
and not others and I could never get the Plextor to work at all

That dosen't sound to good, I have the Plextor PX-810SA.
Maybe I should use an IDE DVD drive to set up Vista with the 2 SATA hard drives and later switch out the DVD??

As stated earlier, if the install DVD boots up you should be fine, if it
doesn't your IDE approach sound best. My Plextor is in the garage so I
don't know what model it was, but it was one of the first SATA DVD Writers
    they made.

John, I am still waiting for some of the parts. I will try your way and get back to you.

Re: New Installation with 2 SATA drives and SATA DVD

Well, today I had a chance to set up the new motherboard and everything went smooth.
Installed a pair of ST 3320620AS hard drives and a pair of Plextor PX-810SA DVD burners, all SATA.
The disk supplied with the Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 motherboard had the drivers to set up a Raid 0 and the DVD drives were seen without a problem.
The Vista install went well. Now I have to learn Vista.....

    Thanks for the input.

    Bob
