| | Cannot load monitor driver I have bought a new TFT monitor and VISTA will not allow me to load the driver, instead defaulting to the generic PnP. This seems to be what VISTA does on all the hardware. Any siuggestions how to get around it? |

| | Re: Cannot load monitor driver Zapper-- Are you certain if this is a ***new monitor, that there is a "monitor driver?" Most 5 year old and newer monitors use the video driver. Comically, Dell even has downloads for monitors that don't use monitor drivers--but it's a big company and not ever corner of its site is tended apparently. Why not try installing a new video driver--and you ought to be able to right click the desktop>properties are bring up the Vista equiv of the display properties tab (I'm not on a vista boot at the moment) and go to the tab for the monitor) and I think you'll see that the video driver controls the monitor. http://www.vtel.com/support/Vista/im.../Display-4.jpg CH "zapper" <zapper@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:4B378817-D504-4D89-82A0-65F6AA00747D@microsoft.com... >I have bought a new TFT monitor and VISTA will not allow me to load the > driver, instead defaulting to the generic PnP. | | Re: Cannot load monitor driver Chad I take your point but even in VISTA it refers to generic PnP Monitor driver. The error message I get is "Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it." | | Re: Cannot load Ck Dev Manager for driver controlling monitor Zapper -- We can determine this quickly. Type devmgmt.msc in run box and tell me what's listed for Monitor. If your video driver is controlling the monitor, when you expand the "monitor" listing and right click the monitor, it will say right on the dialogue box if a video driver controls the monitor. Vista may refer to it, but you should be able to go to the settings tab of the Display Properties dialogue box or Vista's version of it and find out if your monitor in fact uses the video driver. It'll tell you in those tabs after you click the advanced button. | | Re: Cannot load Ck Dev Manager for driver controlling monitor Thanks CH. Did this and it took me to Devices that listed 'Generic PnP Monitor'. In Properties it listed NVIDIA GeForce 6100 in Location, the manufacturer as Microsoft and under the driver tab monitor.sys. I am sorry but I don't appear to be of much help. | | Re: Cannot load Do This now. Anton-- The monitor is handled by the NVidia driver. MSFT isn't the manufacturer of Nvidia drivers, at least not before noon today if they decide to buy another company. 1) Select your driver from this list: http://www.nvidia.com/page/technology_vista_home.html 2) Then use the new hardware wizard and tell it you want to install the driver from a location and browse to where the driver folder is located when you download it. 3) Install the new driver that way. | | Re: Cannot load Do This now. Zapper's looking for the inf driver file that ensures his monitor works correctly with the video card and enable you to set the refresh rate. I have said before in this forum - use the generic one supplied with Vista as it works and wait for your monitor manufacturer to post the right one when Vista goes live.
