| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Vista 64bit or 32bit, or Dual Boot? I just recently got an HP TX1320US notebook computer. it's a dual core turion, with 2mb of RAM and a 250mb HD, and it came with Vista 32bit Home. Should I go vista64? if so, would I need to upgrade the ram to 4mb, which is max ram? do I simply install it over my vista32 home, or do I need to backup files and reinstall everything? Would going dual boot be better, and if so, how? do I repartition the hardrive inside the notebook, get another one? my notebook can only fit one HD. |

Unless they are, you aren't going to get a whole lot out of x64 other than the ability to claim you are running it. You also would need to check with HP to ensure that 64-bit drivers are actually available for the system hardware, as without them you are going to have a less than satisfactory experience. Quote: > if so, would I need to upgrade the ram to 4mb, which is max ram? fine on 2GB. Technically, to do this you'd need 2 licenses as well, but from a trial standpoint you'd be able to get it running. However, the installation of the second OS will likely munge the proprietary bootloader used by HP making access to your recovery partition impossible. You would want to have a set of system restore disks available in case you want to go back. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "shagpal" <shagpal.33zvkc@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:shagpal.33zvkc@xxxxxx-mx.forums.net... (like D) won't run a 64-bit OS. Tom Lake |

| | RE: Vista 64bit or 32bit, or Dual Boot? shagpal, Did you go though with this? I'm debating the same. I have need for some 64-bit apps and I also want to ensure my 32-bit apps have a place to run until they get updated. I do not want to mess with VirtualPCs. When I'm running in one mode I want optimal performance. I want to do this right the first time so some planning is involved. Here are my thoughts: How do I want to partition my single HD? C: Vista OS (32 or 64-bit) with preferred size for OS = ??GB D: Vista OS (64 or 32-bit) with preferred size for OS = ??GB E: Applications and Data Files Should I install applications on the OS drives or can they go to E drive? Do I need to duplicate application installations if the app is to run on both OSes? Does Office provide 64-bit versions? If so, is there a practice at conserving HD space with a 64-bit install and a 32-bit install? -- Best wishes Keith Nicholson "shagpal" wrote: Quote: > > I just recently got an HP TX1320US notebook computer. it's a dual core > turion, with 2mb of RAM and a 250mb HD, and it came with Vista 32bit > Home. > > Should I go vista64? if so, would I need to upgrade the ram to 4mb, > which is max ram? do I simply install it over my vista32 home, or do I > need to backup files and reinstall everything? > > Would going dual boot be better, and if so, how? do I repartition the > hardrive inside the notebook, get another one? my notebook can only fit > one HD. > > > -- > shagpal > |
