| | (Reproducable) Crash during installation of Vista 64 Home Premium I dont really know any further. My problem: Everytime i try to install Vista on my computer, it crashes. Or to me more exact, in the 2nd stage of the installation progress, after the reboot, it stays about 10 minutes in the last step (i think its "finishing installation"), and then reboots hard. Funny thing is: Directly after that reboot, the SATA disk Vista was installed onto will not be detected by the bios. After a cold restart, trying to boot from the disk will result in a message that says something like "This installation of Vista was aborted and cannot be resumed. Please re-install". I tried that 10 times now. My configuration: Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 6Gbyte DDR2 Intel C2D-6600 Geforce 8800 gts Highpoint 2300 Raid controller Vista is being installed on a Sata Disk, while there are 2 PATA disks and the raid. I tried installing with only 2Gbyte. I tried installing when setting sata native ports to off in bios. I tried re-installing over the broken installation. I also tried installing with my old raid controller (a promise SX4000... in fact i bought a new one because i thought that the non-support of vista for this controller is the reason for crash). Non changed anything. The computer itself is not at fault: Its been running WinXP Pro for over a year now without any kind of problems. Any idea what the reason for this could be? I am a bit at a loss about where to search, as it doesnt even show as much as an error code before the reboot. |

| | Re: (Reproducable) Crash during installation of Vista 64 Home Premium I suggest downgrading to 2GB of memory and see if that will install. Then upgrade first to 4GB and if that works to 6GB. | | Re: (Reproducable) Crash during installation of Vista 64 Home Prem I already tried that (forgot to add "RAM" to 2GB in my Post). Yes, i also hoped that the hotfix for the 4Gbyte 32bit DMA problem could help. But exactly the same behaviour also happened (even with bios failsafe defaults on) "Curious" wrote: Quote: > I suggest downgrading to 2GB of memory and see if that will install. > Then upgrade first to 4GB and if that works to 6GB. > "IMS" <IMS@xxxxxx> wrote in message > news:FDD481E9-BA14-4D1B-8247-126446FC4C6E@xxxxxx Quote: > >I dont really know any further. > > My problem: Everytime i try to install Vista on my computer, it crashes. > > Or > > to me more exact, in the 2nd stage of the installation progress, after the > > reboot, it stays about 10 minutes in the last step (i think its "finishing > > installation"), and then reboots hard. > > > > Funny thing is: Directly after that reboot, the SATA disk Vista was > > installed onto will not be detected by the bios. > > After a cold restart, trying to boot from the disk will result in a > > message > > that says something like "This installation of Vista was aborted and > > cannot > > be resumed. | Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: (Reproducable) Crash during installation of Vista 64 Home Premium Issue description: When Windows Vista 64bit first tries to load from the hdd then only the splash screen and a nice blue (like this forum) background is being displayed. Then everything hangs. Keyboard does not respond, mouse pointer does not react as well. Hw Specification: MOBO Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R rev.2.1 CPU Intel Q6600 rev.G0 GPU MSI NX8600GTS Diamond Plus RAM Geil GE24GB800C4DC (2GB) HDD Seagate Barracuda ST3500320AS Power Source: Seasonic S12II-430 430 W OC: Nothing is being overclocked. Sw Specification: OS Vista 64 Home Premium English OEM Part No. X12-24957, DVD Intel ICH9R Driver loaded during installation OS Vista 64Bit from flash disc. HDD looks like successfully formated. BIOS : Disabled onboard audio. Sata Raid AHCI mode [AHCI] Sata Port 0-3 Native Mode [Enabled] Onboard SATA/IDE Device [Enabled] Onboard SATA/IDE Control Mode [AHCI] HDD Partitions: 3XPrimary+Extended(2 Logical Volumes) OS Vista is being installed on the first primary partition (37GB). I will use one of the logical volumes for Program Files. PC Health: GPU ~41˚C CPU ~27˚C Chipset ~33˚C HDD ~40˚C Notes: The computer is rock stable when Gentoo Linux 64bit is being installed up to desktop rendered by OpenGL. No problems, zero. Additional devices, disc, memory can be added later smoothly. No other support drivers needed during installation. The point of this issue: I had to pay for Windows & I did not need to pay for Linux at all. If anybody encounters similar behavior please let me know. |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: (Reproducable) Crash during installation of Vista 64 Home Premium Solution: 1) remove all unimportant devices, discs 2) use only one/two memory sticks 3) use only the disc with partition for the OS 3) update bios In my case I used QFlash ([End] key during start up) and the latest bios F11. BIOS was written on a flash disc. QFlash accesses flash disc via hdd0-1 option in the QFlash menu. Despite the fact that the downloaded exe file with bios was run via wine in Linux, everything went well. What I'm missing on the gigabyte web site is MD5 sums for their binaries. After installation of several drivers and updates in Vista 64 the computer seemed to do nothing, but do not use reset during the configuration phase and the shutting down phase. Just leave the computer and go to meet real people. |
