Clean Install Upgrade home premium from xp media center - partion

I had already upgraded my xp media center to vista home premium. I want to
reinstall it but don't want 2 partitions if i don't need them.

xp was backed up along with other program that came with the computer at
time of purchase on partition D: FAT32

my question is do i need this or is it safe now for me to delete it via
computer management?

I want to run my computer partition free.

The D partition enables you to recover the machine to XP. If you remove it,
and for some reason your backup fails, you will have no way of installing XP
again or the subsequent Vista upgrade.

You would be well advised to leave it be. It is doing no harm..

Hi Ploquit,

If you do not want the partition, then it is safe to delete it. This will show you how to do a clean install with a Upgrade version of Vista. I would just delete both partitions and create one big one again during installation.

Clean Install From Upgrade Vista

Hope this helps,

Hi Stephen,

If Ploquit has a XP installation DVD and since Ploquit does not want the extra partition, I see no reason to keep it since he only wants to have Vista installed.

Re: Clean Install Upgrade home premium from xp media center - part

Thanks Brink, you were on the same page as me. I was planning on making one
big partition... but, What i decided to do is format the D: which was fat32
into NTFS. I'll store my restore points there. and I also did the clean
install.

Ploquit,

System restore points can only be stored on the same drive/partition that Vista is installed on. There is no option to allow them to be stored in another location.

I suppose you could use the D: partition to store whatever backup files you want instead. If you decide you want to delete the D partition and make one larger C: drive, then you still can with Vista's Disk Management. This will show you how.
