| | Vista bootup error - Application error - explorer.exe - cannot boo I am building a brand new computer - here are my specs: Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4 Intel Dual Quad Q6600 4x1gb Crucial Ballistix DDR2 (PC2 8500) RAM MSI NX8600GT Video Card (512 mb on board) Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty SC WD 1 Terabtye HD (data only drive) WD 500gb HD (primary drive for applications, windows, etc.) Asus DVD-ROM Samsung DVD-RW Tagen 700w PS Windows Vista Home Premium Now....last night this little jewel booted up just fine and I was online, etc. Windows took the notion that it needed to update via Windows Update. Something didn't quite go right it appears with the update because right in the middle of downloading and installing an update, I saw an error that explorer.exe had stopped working. I was asked to "go online and find a solution" or "look later". Then, the computer rebooted. Ever since then, when I attempt to start the computer, I get all the way to the point where it looks like it's going to go into windows...but I see this error: EXPLORER.EXE - Application Error The instruction at 0x75a89c86 referenced memory at 0x0ab1225. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the program. After I click OK (That's the only option I've got), I see the light blue background of windows and then nothing....it just sits there. We go in this endless loop all day long. The computer will not reboot itself - I have to manually reboot it or it will just sit there on that light blue screen all day. I attempted to boot from CD with the Vista CD installed, but for some reason, the computer is not picking up on the CD drive. In the BIOS, the CD drives (DVD-ROM and DVD-RW drives) are not listed until I click on Search for drive... Please help. I am on my last two hairs here! Thanks. |

How about running system restore from the command line (non-gui) mode? -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "SDC" <SDC@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:1607A3D4-DB20-4DDF-9D61-7669785058C6@xxxxxx Quote: >I am building a brand new computer - here are my specs: > > Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4 > Intel Dual Quad Q6600 > 4x1gb Crucial Ballistix DDR2 (PC2 8500) RAM > MSI NX8600GT Video Card (512 mb on board) > Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Fatal1ty SC > WD 1 Terabtye HD (data only drive) > WD 500gb HD (primary drive for applications, windows, etc.) > Asus DVD-ROM > Samsung DVD-RW > Tagen 700w PS > Windows Vista Home Premium > > Now....last night this little jewel booted up just fine and I was online, > etc. Windows took the notion that it needed to update via Windows Update. > Something didn't quite go right it appears with the update because right > in > the middle of downloading and installing an update, I saw an error that > explorer.exe had stopped working.
