New Hard Drive!

I have the Windows Vista upgrade disc and I just bought a new hard drive. Do
I need to reinstall Windows Xp and Windows Vista again or is there an eaiser
way to do it?

Re: New Hard Drive!

The Upgrade Vista license is only valid if it upgrades
from a qualifying operating system, such as Windows XP.

Re: New Hard Drive!

You can do a full PC backup, replace the hard drive with the newer hard
drive and then restore from the backup onto the new hard drive.

Re: New Hard Drive!

Install the upgrade disk without entering a serial number, be sure to select
the version (Business, Home, Ultimate...) that corresponds to your upgrade.
Then without activating boot from the upgrade disk again upgrade over the
top of the install you just did. Vista qualifies as an operating system you
can upgrade from.

Re: New Hard Drive!

You can always clone the old hard drive to the new, and then run the upgrade
from the new hard drive.

Re: New Hard Drive!

Download Acronis Migrate 15 day trial.
I couldn't believe how easy it made the whole process- no hiccups and a
spare hdd left as a full back-up!

Re: New Hard Drive!

You have to have Vista Ultimate or Business.
