Desktop Vanished

Hi

I was previousy using XP and have installed Vista Ultimate Edition over the
top.

My Desktop has now vanished, and in its place a blank screen.

I can see my desktop a folder, bit when I try to drag on to the desktop it
will not go.

I have gone to control panel and it will also not open anything to do with
Desktop or Start Menu.

Any suggestions?

You could try a fresh install with the upgrade disk. Here's a tutorial on how to do that: Clean Install From Upgrade Vista

I hope this helps.

RE: Desktop Vanished

Try this:
Go to the Windows Orb (Start), type regedit, press Enter and navigate to
registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon. In the right pane, make sure there is a REG_SZ
named Shell and it has a value of "explorer.exe" (no quotation marks).

If it’s not there, create it by clicking Edit > New > String Value. To be
prudent create a system restore point before making any changes to the
registry.
