Vista Ultimate Install Failure

This is a machine that had XP Pro installed with no issues. Specs are a 1.8
Ghz processor with 2Gb memory. The install made it to the Vista desktop [but
no icons] but the install restart began a chain of failures. There have been
a chain of bluescreens and error messages. One bluescreen message was
"IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". There were other references to hardware and video.
I switched to the video connection that came with the board but the same
error messages persist. Safe mode leads to the same outcome. Seeking
guidance in troubleshooting.

Re: Vista Ultimate Install Failure

You really didn't give much to go on--
Irq not less or equal is an error message that can be caused by hardware
failure, Obsolete/incorrect Drivers, overclocking, etc.
In your case, I'd start at the MBD level, and see if an updated BIOS and
possibly chipset and USB drivers are needed/available.
Then, I'd likely move on and see if the video driver needs updating.
Finally, the other device drivers for printers, LAN cards, etc.
The Lan card drivers are also a commonly found source of your problems.

You might be able to get a successful install by removing non essential
devices & I/O cards/adapters, leaving the keyboard mouse, video card,
hard drive, and CD/DVD drive. Then things are added in one at a time until
everything works, or the last installed device causes the problem.
