| | Can I install Windows Vista on another computer after decommisioning the one on which it was installed previously? Hi Gurus, I have an old computer on which I have installed my purchased copy of Windows Vista Ultimate edition. It has reached its end-of-life and I am about to decommission it. I want to purchase a customized desktop and install the same copy of Windows Vista Ultimate on it after removing it from the old machine (formatting old machine's hard drive). Can I install Windows Vista on another computer after decommissioning the one on which it was installed previously? Is this legal? Do I need to notify Microsoft about it? How can this be achieved? Do I need to re-activate the copy of Windows Vista? regards, Anurag |

Since you state it's a retail copy, yes you can install it on a second PC after decommissioning the older one. You will have to activate it again (just like last time)... it may activate online, but if it doesn't, use the telephone option and explain that that old PC is no longer working. It will only take a few minutes and in most cases, is a toll free call. -- Cari (MS-MVP) Printing & Imaging www.coribright.com/windows "Anurag Mathur" <mathuranurag1982@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:B671C701-FF05-4B6C-82D4-0F396C5DD588@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi Gurus, > > I have an old computer on which I have installed my purchased copy of > Windows Vista Ultimate edition.
