Before starting windows for the first time?

I start installing RC1 either clean or upgrade and the installation goes fine
till the last item on the install list comes up. "starting windows for first
time" or "finishing install" (can't remember) the computer restarts or turns
off and then i turn it back on and i get an error saying there is a problem
with the setup. and has to roll back to windows XP if i did an upgrade and
ona clean install machine just says there is a problem please install again.
any help?
