C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG.NT problem

hello. i'm trying to play a game (which i think is 16bit) i downloaded but it keeps coming up with an error message telling me that i'm missing the C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG.NT file. i have looked up ways to fix this, but can only find solutions for Windows XP, & when i found a solution here from a user called Josh, he claimed there is an HKLM pathway in regedit but i don't see this

my system is Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. please help me sort this mess

thanks

ps, i'm a PC n00b, so please try make it simple for me, cheers

Vista 32-bit can run 16-bit programs.
Please check that %Systemroot%\system32\config.nt and
%systemroot\system32\autoexec.nt exists and valid.
Otherwise, just put:

REM

in both files.

Hogwash. Vista 32bit runs (most) 16bit programs just fine. It doesn't
handle full-screen 16bit programs, but the rest are OK. Granted, the
fact that this is a game probably means that it wants to run in
full-screen mode and won't work, but your blanket statement that it
won't run 16bit is incorrect.

Regards,

Dave

Re: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG.NT problem

if i knew how to i would. but i don't think that's the problem anymore. i tried the HD on a different computer today & it never showed up on there either. i think my HD is broken now, but i only got it for christmas, so i don't understand why Toshiba would sell products that only last 6 months. my last question: is there any way at all i can at least recover what i stored on there?

& thanks for the suggested help guys

Nope.

Even people who are much more adept with computers than you are would
not be able to do. It would take a very expensive professional to do
it.

It's time for you to start looking at backup strategies while this
experience is fresh in your mind.
