| Guest | Upgrade from Premium Home SP 1 to Ultimate via Anytime Upgrade? I have a new laptop on the way with Premium Home SP1 pre-installed. I have a new 32-bit Ultimate disk w/o SP1 but it includes Windows Anytime Upgrade. I've read that you can upgrade from Home SP1 to Ultimate only if you have Ultimate SP1. Is this correct? Also, is it possible to get the Ultimate SP1 through the Anytime Upgrade? I wanted to ask before I go through the process of trying to upgrade. Thanks for the help. |

When your online order is complete, you will be mailed a Windows Anytime Upgrade Pack which includes your product key, Windows Anytime Upgrade disc w/SP1, and upgrade instructions. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro.../overview.mspx -- Carey Frisch Microsoft MVP Windows Desktop Experience - Windows Vista Enthusiast --------------------------------------------------------------- "LoriCLF" <LoriCLF@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:4917B7F4-4314-40CE-9051-C1D377286869@xxxxxx I have a new laptop on the way with Premium Home SP1 pre-installed. | Guest | Re: Upgrade from Premium Home SP 1 to Ultimate via Anytime Upgrade Actually, I already have the Ultimate CD, which I received from another source, not from the vendor where I purchased my laptop. I believe I would only receive the Home Premium CD from the vendor, correct? |

| Guest | Re: Upgrade from Premium Home SP 1 to Ultimate via Anytime Upgrade Windows Anytime Upgrade discs contain all versions of Vista. You will need the updated disc that has SP1 on it that they will provide in order to complete the update. | Guest | Re: Upgrade from Premium Home SP 1 to Ultimate via Anytime Upgrade Hi Lori, Minor correction: They are DVD's, not CD's. The vendor disk is likely an image disk that just splats the original installation back onto the system, wiping everything out. It's useless for anything else. As your system came preinstalled with SP1, your assumption is correct in that you cannot use the pre-SP1 disk to upgrade to Ultimate (and, in reality, with retail disks all versions of Vista are there, it's your product key that determines which version installs). You would have to uninstall SP1 first, and that's not usually an option with preinstalled systems. As Carey has pointed out, if you use the Anytime Upgrade process, it will include the option to receive a disk that contains SP1. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "LoriCLF" <LoriCLF@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:7877E456-091F-472D-81E4-DEA42BC66E3A@xxxxxx Quote: > Actually, I already have the Ultimate CD, which I received from another > source, not from the vendor where I purchased my laptop.
