| | Windows fails to start I am running Vista Business SP1 32-bit P/N 66J-05542, internal part 1008952, work order no: MR085198 - MR08518, build date: 04/16/2008 I am able to successfully install vista, applications, and security updates from Microsoft Update and everything works great as long as the computer does not remain turned off for several days. It's Wednesday and the computer was turned off and not used on Monday or Tuesday. I turned the computer on and Windows Boot Manager reports an error winload.exe 0xc000007b - The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt. So I booted from the dvd and choose the repair my computer option and continued to select the startup repair. The repair said it was done and to reboot. I rebooted and Windows Boot Manager reported 0xc0000040 - an unexpected error has occurred. If this were the first time maybe I wouldn't care so much, but it isn't. On another occasion the computer had been turned off overnight or for a day, whatever it was. I turned the computer on and Boot Manager reported 0xc000000f - NLS data is missing or corrupt. I bit the bullet and I decided to move to Vista; but this is killing me. My first 14 days of Windows Vista have not been good. When I go to use my computer to pay bills and check email I expect it to work!! Does anybody have some ideas what may be causing this? Thanks for the help. In the mean time I will be installing Vista for the Nth flipping time.... |

| | RE: Windows fails to start After installing vista, my system would blue screen with an error of TRAP_CAUSE_UNKNOWN and error code 12. I made some system configuration changes and have reinstalled again. I have also chosen not to install vista update KB938371 which updates the installation components. For whatever reason my paranoia believes this update is related to my original problem - the system not booting after being turned off for 24 hours. So far my computer is working... |
