| | Driver Warning at Startup Each time I boot up my Vista Home Premium system I get a message that says: "Windows needs to install driver softwre for your unknown device." I believe "unknown device" refers to my Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse because if I cancel the mesage by clicking on "Cancel" my mouse or keyboard ceases to function. Thanks to a previous posting on this board I have downloaded and installed the drivers for the keyboard and mouse, and they both work fine. So now I respond to the message by "X-ing" it out (usually 5 or 6 clicks on the X in the upper right hand corner removes the message). Anyone have a suggestion for how I can get rid of this annoyance? |

| | Re: Driver Warning at Startup I know this is comparing apples & oranges, but I recently had a similar situation with a Logitech wireless (diNovo) keyboard & (MX Revolution) mouse. The keyboard was recognized, but the nastygram said my mouse wasn't being detected - although it worked as advertised. I'm not familiar with MS's setup, but Logitech requires separate dongles for the keyboard & mouse (I bought them separately). I finally resolved the problem by: 1) uninstalling (Device Mgr) the drivers & unplugging the mouse dongle 2) rebooting with only the keyboard dongle mounted 3) installing the software (drivers) 4) shutting down the PC 5) mounting the mouse dongle 6) booting the machine All ran well without the nastygram at startup. Do you use one (or none?) dongle for both KB & mouse? If one, you might try removing the drivers, shutting down, plugging in a wired mouse, booting, reinstalling the software (drivers), then rebooting with the wireless mouse instead. I know it sounds screwy, but as an ex-programmer, I also know 'stuff happens'. Hope this helps.
