    vista will not start!!!

Hi, i have been frustrated as my copy of vista home premium will not start
up. I have the product key and the sticker on the side of the case, but as
vista do not supply a dvd with their product when you purchase it with a pc
as i did, i cannot get it to start. I have my whole system backed up, so a
full restart would be perfect. I have tried the windows recovery disc which
is availible from some sites, and that did not help me. I am currently
running the pc on a free linux distro as i have no other choice. Please is
there any way in which i could obtain an uncertified version of vista and
then use my product key to certify it. Thanks.

    Matt

It isn't that "vista do not supply a dvd with their product...". It is that
the computer mftr. from whom you purchased the laptop (HP, Sony, etc.) does
not provide a real operating system disk. So complain to them and tell them
you'll vote with your wallet next time. But that is neither here nor there
    for your issue.

Saying that your computer "will not start up" and providing no details makes
it impossible to help you. We have no way of knowing whether this is a
hardware issue (probably not because you can run a Linux distro on it),
whether the machine was infected, or what happened. These links will show
you what details you need to include in your next post so we can give you

Otherwise, contact the computer mftr.'s tech support.

    Re: vista will not start!!!

When the computer starts up is there not an option to press a F key to start
system recovery (I have a HP computer and it did not come with an operating
DVD. If I want to recover the system I can press F11 during start up and I
would be taken to a recovery console)
