Vista power settings - power button functionality

Just got a Vista laptop after about 4 years of XP. There is one item from XP
that I was wondering whether or not could be enabled on Vista.

Does anyone know if there is a tweak or fix to add to the power options
(When the computer power button is pressed, do this...) the old XP "ask me
what to do?"

I think it is a useful piece of functionality, and I prefer it to scrounging
through the start menu everytime I want to power down, hibernate, or sleep my
laptop.

Re: Vista power settings - power button functionality

So there's no way to configure Vista so that it will ask me what I want to do
when I push the power button?

Re: Vista power settings - power button functionality

Sure. Open "Power Options" located in your Control Panel
and in the left-hand pane, click on "Choose what the power buttons do".

Hi Phase4,

There is no way to set it to ask what you want it to do when you press the power button. You can only select what you what it to do. This tutorial will show you how to.

Power Button

You could use the Alt+F4 option to be able to select a shutdown option though.

Shutdown Vista from the Keyboard

Hope this helps,
Shawn
