| | TechNet Plus Subscription Remove eval Build 6001watermark? I have a TechNet Plus subscription which is current. Last week I downloaded Vista Ultimate from the download site en_windows_vista_retail_with_service_pack_1_rc_x64_dvd.iso I burned the iso to a DVD and installed it on a new computer. I did not activate as per the instructions at the bottom of the Vista download page. I received a message the activation was successful. I'm concerned about a watermark in the lower right hand corner. Evaluation copy - Build 6001. Then after a hour or two I'm getting a message, You Windows license will expire in 0 hours. Back up your files and install any edition of Vista. I am a registered TechNet Plus subscription holder in good standing with Microsoft. My TechNet subscription is only a month old. Are the ISOs on TehNet old? What's going on? |

You need to download the final version, not an RC one, and do a clean install. Malke -- MS-MVP Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic! FAQ - http://www.elephantboycomputers.com/#FAQ |

| | Re: TechNet Plus Subscription Remove eval Build 6001watermark? Douglas R. Spindler - First - are you sure you downloaded Utlimate 64 and not Enterprise 64? When SP1 Beta/RC was installed it modified the screen to indicate an "Evaluation copy", however after installing the final SP1 release (RTM) the evaluation remark was not removed. The note about not activating upon initial installation is confusing - the intent was that there is an activation grace period (30 days) and if, for some reason, you did not want to keep that Vista installation you could uninstall without losing an activation key - further information on how to extend the grace key should have been included. Why I asked about the downlod (U;timat v. Enterprise) was that Enterprise was offered with volume licensing instead of MAKs as are most downloads - the activation notice (without actual activation) is a result of volume licensing. In fact the installation will be activated without Internet connection. The license expiration notice is a pain, however it should not affect the installtion - other than bing a pain. Solution? | | Re: TechNet Plus Subscription Remove eval Build 6001watermark? Positive it is Ultimate. It had a 3 day to activate notice. The notes on TechNet say NOT to activate otherwise it will require a licensing server. Instead it says to change the key and enter it again - Which I did. It sucessfully activated. I still have the watermark and now I'm getting Your Windows licesne will expire in 0 hours. And now it seems like it's re-booting every 2-4 hours. The concierge should be able to explain what you need to do. |
