Vista - Vista RC1 installation hangs at first boot

I'm trying to create a dual boot system with XP and Vista RC1. I've added an
extra 80GB HD to the system for Vista. After entering the product key, and
selecting the partition where the installation should go, the installer
starts with 'Copying Files...' and 'Expanding Files...' After a few percent
into Expanding Files, the system reboots. At some point in the boot, the
green bars moving from left to right appear, and then suddenly stop moving.
At that point I can only reset the system.

I've tried installing from a physical DVD and from a virtual DVD. Both
attempts had the same result. I've removed the XP HD and tried to
boot/install from DVD. Same result.
The Upgrade Advisor did not detect any problems.

Did anyone else see the same problem and find a solution?

I had the same problem. Take the DVD out of the drive when the computer
reboots during the "expanding files" stage. After I did this the boot would
complete and the installation would proceed as normal. I hope this works for
you also!
