You will have to set up your pen drive as a bootable HD. This can be done through HPs utility that can be found on google. After you have formatted your pen drive as a bootable disk you need to extract the files from the ISO and copy them accross. Please take note of the size of the files you are copying accross as they may be quite large. Once the drive is formatted and set up with the files you need to set up the bios to boot from usb. This is done easier if the drive is in the usb slot when scanning for disk. |

| Guest | Re: How to write an iso image of Vista installation DVD to usb pen Hi Roy, Thank u very much for your quick reply. Actually I have tried this. That is I downloaed the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool Version 2.0.6 utility, installed it on my system & created a dos bootable pen drive. Then i extracted the windows XP SP3 iso image to the pen drive & booted the system using this pen drive. System get booted to dos prompt but OS installtion is not started. For your information, the size of USB pen drive is 2Gb & size of iso file is 600MB. If you have successfully done this, then please let me know the procedure you followed. Thanks in advance Best Regards "roy69" wrote:

When I used my usb key as a boot disk it was for a mobo bios upgrade which I did manually. There must be an autoexec file or something similar. Look on your disk and post back what you find. |

| Guest | Re: How to write an iso image of Vista installation DVD to usb pen Hi roy, thanks once again. I have used windows 98 bootable floppy to create a bootable pen drive. So on my pen drive, there are only IO.SYS, MSDOD.SYS & COMMAND.COM get created, nothing else & may be because of this my pen drive get booted to dos prompt i.e C:\. Thanks, best regards "roy69" wrote:

Try typing setup into the cmd. |

| Guest | Re: How to write an iso image of Vista installation DVD to usb pen dri An "ISO" image is not bootable - the reason for "...the need for a blank dvd..." is for the bootable image created from the "ISO" image. Also something is amiss regarding "... size of iso file is 600MB...." - the Vista ISO image is roughly 2.2 gigs in size (reason for a DVD).
