This tutorial may be able to help you.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
As Brink implies - the startup Repair tool is available as an option when
booting from the Vista DVD. and selecting the repair option from the
screen..

Even though the computer is set to boot from CDROM, both the restore disk and full version disk fail to boot. I also "press any key" when the boot to CD appears on the screen. The CDROM flickers a little bit and boots to the hard drive.
With windows running the full version will open automatically.
Other disks open automatically also.
Thanks for answering
Interesting in that you do get the note to "Press any key..." - and no
farther.
Some thoughts: If by restore disk you are referring to a disk proved by the
OEM - they are usually "booted" by use of the "Hit the F10 (or other
designated key) for restore..." (or something similar) which appears during
boot.
They are not routinely bootable driectly from the CD/DVD.
Some Vista DVDs are upgrade specfic and will not boot from the CD, however
there is usually a messge that it must be run from within Windows.

I have a OEM restore disk. By clicking F10 I get a boot menu or Press any key to boot from CDROM.
Neither work. CDROM flickers and computer boots to HD.
I'm afraid I may need to wipe HD clean and start over. I have it set up as a testing server. Many hours of work.

Craig,
You might give this tutorial a try. It shows you how to create a Recovery Disc that you can boot from to run Startup Repair.
Create a Recovery Disc
Thanks to all.
I got the disk to work and the computer works. The my notebook took a crap and could not fix it's self and I used the disc again with good results.
