Vista - Never Got The Chance To Begin RC1 Upgrade

I have just been put through a second negative experience with a Windows
Vista Upgrade. I am certain that I have a good copy of Windows Vista because
I checked the MD5 of the ISO before I burned it and had Nero check it bit for
bit for errors after the burn and there were none. I downloaded the RC1
Windows Vista Advisor and it said "Windows Vista will install on your
computer." Then it proceeded to show me some programs with "X's" that needed
to be uninstalled, and I uninstalled them. Finally, there were no more "X's"
beside any programs and the only warnings I got was that my Nvidia 4600
graphics card might not be able to handle "Aero" graphics, that certain
programs might need to be upgraded after installing, and that there was no
information on whether my Promise TX2 ATA133 Hard Drive Controller PCI Card
was supported by Vista. I double clicked the Vista setup icon from within
Windows XP Pro and got the message, "Can't Determine Whether Windows Vista
Will Work For You." I clicked "OK" and promptly was tossed from the install.
I tried again, clicked the "X" to close the dialog and I still got tossed.
I bought the Windows Vista Beta, accomplished the upgrade, but never got a
visible desktop. I downloaded the Windows Vista RC1 and never got the chance
to begin upgrading it. If there's anyone out there that has time and knows
what's going on, please give me guidance or ask for more detailed information
and I will follow it or provide it. I will postpone restoring this secondary
operating system hoping that I get such a response.
