| | Help with Deployment Workbench and Deployment Services Hello all: I have tried to get an image (VISTA) to work for months with no success. Basically I install an OS in the Deployment workbench. Set a standard task to image a workstation. I have my deployment point. I either get the error "windows could not apply unattend setting during pass (null)" or if it completes the OS blows-up and keeps erroring and rebooting. My goal is to tweak the unattend.xml so that I only need to enter the computer name and admin password. However, to try to make it work I have not tweaked the unattend.xml that BDD creates as part of the task. It still fails with the error above. However, this is what I have in my rules as part of the deployment point: [Settings] Priority=Default Properties=MyCustomProperty [Default] OSInstall=Y UserDataLocation=NONE SkipAppsOnUpgrade=YES SkipCapture=YES SkipAdminPassword=NO SkipProductKey=YES ProductKey=xxxxx-xxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxxx SkipDomainMembership=YES JoinDomain=My domain SkipLocaleSelection=YES AreaCode=651 CountryCode=001 Dialing=TONE SkipTimeZone=YES TimeZoneName=Central Standard Time UserLocale=en-us UILanguage=en-us SkipBitLocker=YES SkipUserData=YES Here is my bootstrap.ini: [Settings] Priority=Default [Default] DeployRoot=\\MARY\Distribution$ Also, I'm using BDD version 4.2--I think the latest. I'm try to image to Virtual PC on my computer. I'm try to use the lite touch method to image as my goal states above. The only thing that I have gotton to work is if I do an image without the unattend.xml file. However that is just like putting a cd in the computer and going through the whole install process. At first, I have been working with the OEM DVD from the manufacturer, and I thought that maybe that was my issue. Thus, I downloaded Vista from Microsoft with my Technet subscription and a key. Still same problem. Lastly, I configured Deployment services to see if that would help me. I got PXE to work. I have installed an image without unattend.xml, but again when I incorporate the unattend.xml file, it blows up with the same errors. What could I be doing wrong? -- RJ |

| | Re: Help with Deployment Workbench and Deployment Services This is informative information about sysprep. However, the way I understand it, I should be able to push an image from the source CD with information in the the unattend.xml and deployment workbench to make a "lite touch" install situation. Is that a correct assumption? -- RJ "rajinisback" wrote: Quote: > > HI RJ, > > Check this link.
