No operating systems in System recovery options

Hi,

My Vista Home premium PC was working fine (6 months) until yesterday. I found it had turned itself off. I turned it back on and it tried to start up and got the green microsoft vista progess bar for a few seconds, then a blue screen of death flashes up (too quick to read anything on it) and the PC restarts.
If i try to boot into safemode it freezes while it lists the drivers its loading.

So, I put in the recovery disk, choose the language and click on Repair Windows.
The next dialog box is called System Recovery Options. The problem I get here is that there are no operating systems in the list. It says i should look for hard drive drivers, but I don't know how to find them. I don't know the manufacturer of my drives.

I have tried the /ScanOs thingy using the command prompt and it says it can't find windows on any drives. Don't know if this is helpful.

Anyone got any ideas on what I can do to make it work again?

Start by testing your HDD , since you say you don't know what it
is, Seagate have diagnostic software that will test most [if not all
HDDs]
You obviously have a working machine so D/L it here
http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/sup...loads/seatools
Get back with the results.

Re: No operating systems in System recovery options

first off i'd try to find out what is happening to your system. sounds like your psu is not putting out the power to get the system up and running. another thing maybe
your cpu fan died and the system is getting to hot for a good bootup. can you
get into your bios and checks the fans and temps?

Re: No operating systems in System recovery options

Thanks, I'm searching for a blank CD right now.
The bios says the fans are ok and the temps are about 26 degrees C.

I have done a bit more research online. I have run chkdsk on C drive no probs, D drive had a problem with the file system that it says it fixed with /F, but it still does not boot into windows and there are no operating systems listed in the system recovery options.

Get back to you when I run seatools.

Re: No operating systems in System recovery options

when the system boots before the green microsoft vista progess bar press i think it's
f8 or f6 and test your memory and see if one of the sticks are failing.

Re: No operating systems in System recovery options

I've just finished running Seatools.

My drives are:
Dev 0: WDC WD2500KS-00MJBO
Dev 1: Maxtor 6V200E0

Both drives passed the short test.

The WDC drive passed the long test. When doing the long test on the Maxtor, it gets to 1% (LBA 6322184 1 error) and freezes.

I'm running the windows memory diagnostics tool now.

Any ideas on what to try next?
