I am afraid that the upgrade disk you obtained can be used to upgrade the system from Windows XP
to Windows Vista. However, it cannot be used to upgrade from a lower version of Windows Vista to a higher one.

To upgrade from Windows Vista Home premium to Windows Vista Ultimate, you will need to use Windows Anytime Upgrade.

Except for something very important:
All Technet downloads for OSes are Volume LIcense media, and are just
like OEM media -- they can't do "upgrade installations", only "clean"
installations.

Donald, Technet has Retail media for Vista. The only Volume License
specific one is Vista Enterprise, which is not available Retail. Technet
Volume License media for Enterprise can do both inplace upgrades and clean
installs. (VL media is usually only for VL customers and is usually upgrade
only, so you got that the wrong way round - a VL customer can request
bootable media for a clean install).
