Clean Install on New Hard Drive

Due to a mobo & cpu meltdown, had to get new puter
that included a 160GB Sata HD.

When installed Vista Ultimate, HD showed only 149GB.
What happened to the other the 11GB?

First time had HD this large so unsure if this is normal.

Yes it is. The formatted size is always smaller than the size advertized. I
have never understood why this practice is still done, as an unformatted
drive can only be used as a doorstop in a doll's house..
