Vista - Expanding Files- 1% per hour

I have windows xp pro sp2 x64 and i'm trying to install vista ultimate sp1 x64 and expanding files is way too slow.
I have 4gb ram, Dual processor AMD AM2 6000, hard drive is Hitachi HDP725032GLA360 connection is SATA2 I think.
Please help me!!!
P.S. I tried installing with just one 2gb stick and it didnt work

Can you rewrite your posting of what you are trying to do.

You are installing Vista Ultimate x64 over XP Pro x64 SP2? I would recommend either adding a second hard drive to dual boot or backup and do a clean install.

What are you using the 2GB stick for?

No no you got me wrong, I'm not installing it over xp i'm installing it instead of XP you know from BIOS 1st boot device and stuff, and what I tried to do was remove one of my 2GB ram sticks and tried to install vista with just one 2GB ram stick connected(I saw it in another forum) but it didnt work.
And basicly it all goes well(although slow) but everything works up untill I get to Expanding Files and then its like 1% per hour

is your processor still set in 64 bit mode ??
have you tried a clean install instead of a upgrade ??
is your vista disk the 64 bit version?? are you sure ??

Did you remove everything from the drive before installing? I would reset your CMOS to default. Check the connections on your hard drive. Get the latest BIOS rev. Reduce RAM to 1-2 sticks.

Well I did everything you said and in the CMOS the only option I saw was to load optimized settings, nothing about default so I chose that but it didnt work.
P.S. I installed Windows XP PRO SP2 x32 to see what the Vista upgrade advisor has to say, and By diconnecting everything from the drive did you mean all the physical connections??(If so thats what I did except for the Screen, Mouse and keyboard).

Someone please help me install that damn vista!!!!
